Create dashboards and visualizations based on data to identify trends. This will allow you to make informed business decisions and clearly communicate insights to stakeholders. Depending on your content type, you can host your insights on two types of servers. Reference the information below.
Hosted: https://tableau.private.state.co.us
Type of Content: Contains one or all of the following: PII, PHI or HIPAA.
Login Information: Login with either a designated AWS username and password or domain (Windows) user name and password.
Licensing Model: Individual licenses are required for each user on the server.
Hosted: https://tableau.state.co.us
Type of Content: Intended for consumption by users across agencies, guests or the general public.
Login Information: Login with a state-issued email address.
Licensing Model: Only Creator licenses are required for Creator privileges; there can be an unlimited number of Viewers, Explorers, etc.
Each user has a Site Role assigned to them that determines their level of access to Tableau: Project Leader/Creator, Viewer, and Explorer.
Use the list below for reference on the levels of access and guides needed to navigate the site. To request access to Tableau, contact the Enterprise Data Integrations team.
Requires the purchase of a Creator license (private and core-based server)
Allows the user to connect to Tableau Server data or external data in the browser
Can be used with Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep
Creates new data sources
Builds and publishes content
Manages users
Assigns site roles/membership
This role has the same level of access as a Site Administrator Creator; however, it cannot connect to external data or virtual connections from the web editing environment (Tableau Server) and cannot publish Tableau Prep flows.
Requires the purchase of a Creator license (private and core-based servers)
It can:
Connect to Tableau or external data in the browser.
Build and publish flows.
Create and Publish Data sources and workbooks.
Access Dashboard Starters.
Use interaction features on published views.
Connect to data from Tableau Prep or Tableau Desktop
Publish (upload/save) and download flows, workbooks and data sources
Requires the purchase of an Explorer license (private server only)
Allows the user to publish workbooks from the web using existing data sources, browse and interact with published views and use all interaction features
In the web editing environment, this role:
Allows editing and saving existing workbooks
Is unable to save new standalone data sources from data connections embedded in workbooks
Unable to connect to external data or virtual connections or create new data sources
Unable to publish or run Tableau Prep flows
Requires the purchase of an Explorer license (private server only)
Able to browse and interact with published views
Able to subscribe to content and create data-driven alerts
Connects to Tableau published data sources and open workbooks in the web authoring environment for ad-hoc queries, but they can’t publish their own workbooks.
Unable to make a virtual connection
Unable to publish or run Tableau Prep flows
Requires the purchase of a Viewer license (private server only)
Able to see published views created by others and use most interaction features.
Able to subscribe to views and download them as images or summary data.
Unable to connect to data, create, edit, publish content, or set data alerts.

NOTE: For both Core-based and Private Tableau servers, each team account is responsible for purchasing the Creator license before having access.
